Cookie Policy
This document is pending review by counsel and will be finalised before public launch.
1. What this is about
A cookie is a small piece of text a website stores in your browser so it can recognise you on your next request. Apps and websites can also keep small pieces of data on your device in other ways. This policy lists everything Batata stores on your device, why, and how you control it. It goes with the Privacy Policy.
2. The cookies Batata sets
- The session cookie (bt_s): keeps you signed in on the website. Strictly necessary; without it you cannot stay signed in. It holds a random token and nothing about you; it is cleared when you sign out.
- The language cookie (bt_locale): set only if you choose a language on a device that is not the one your browser speaks. It holds the code of that language and nothing else.
That is all. Batata sets no advertising cookie, no analytics cookie and no cookie from another company, and no other company sets cookies through Batata. The games run on a separate address that sets no cookies at all.
3. Other storage on your device
The website and the app keep a small local store of your own settings, on your device only: your theme and sound choice, your usage-analytics choice, whether you have seen the welcome card, your language, and a short-lived note of the country the network resolved so the consent bar knows whether to appear. The app keeps your sign-in token in the phone's secure keystore. None of this is sent anywhere as such.
4. Usage analytics
Batata's own usage events (which games you viewed and played, for how long, what you liked or saved) are not cookies, but they are the one non-essential thing we record, so they are governed by the same choice. Where the law asks for prior consent, the consent bar asks you once and nothing is recorded until you accept; everywhere else they are on and you can turn them off. The switch is in the Privacy centre in Settings, on the website and in the app.
5. How to control it
- The consent bar and the switch in the Privacy centre control usage analytics.
- Your browser lets you see, block and delete cookies; deleting the session cookie signs you out.
- Choosing a language in Settings saves it to your account instead of a cookie; the cookie is then no longer needed.
- Deleting the app removes its local store and its token.
6. Changes and contact
If we ever add a cookie or a kind of storage, we update this list first. Questions go to hello@batata.world.
